I Seek by Artika Aurora Bakshi

This poem is in commemoration of the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

In a world fighting against itself,

I seek brotherhood;

In homes, where greed and discontent reign,

I seek oneness;

In bonds, which are bound by selfishness,

I seek graciousness;

Where religion divides,

Where values dissipate,

Where rituals dictate,

Where morality has died,

I seek a revolution;

For when darkness prevails,

And humanity is forgotten,

When freedom is at stake,

And the minds are distraught,

I seek a saviour;

There was one, hundreds of years ago,

when the world was at crossroads,

Being strangled by the merchants of faith,

With a smile to warm even the coldest soul,

And words so sweet, touching the core of every heart,

Today, I seek that healer;

Nanak, the gentlest of gentle souls,

Radiant, pure, with a heart of pure gold,

Wise, divine, in our hearts even today,

This is what he had to say…

Air is the Guru, Water is the Father, and Earth is the Great Mother of all.

Day and night are the two nurses, in whose lap all the world is at play.

Good deeds and bad deeds-the record is read out in the Presence of the Lord of Dharma.

According to their own actions, some are drawn closer, and some are driven farther away.

Those who have meditated on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and departed after having worked by the sweat of their brows

-O Nanak, their faces are radiant in the Court of the Lord, and many are saved along with them! ||1||

Keh Nanak Anand Hoa Satguru Main Paya by Artika Aurora Bakshi

This poem is in commemoration of the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

Seek and you shall find

An age-old adage that is imprinted onto my mind;

But does it hold true, I wonder

As I look everywhere, beyond and yonder.

What I seek is peace of mind

And the assurance that destiny will be kind;

Many a tests have I faced

Given up, risen again and held on in haste.

I find myself at an end

Have left no stone unturned, looked around every bend;

Knocked on every door, asked every soul

looking for the footprints of the great sage of times old;

Searching in temples and valleys afar

Yet, not finding who I hold in awe!

Until I hear a soft voice from within

You can find him  just under the din;

He who had searched and he who had found

The answers deep, true and profound.

His Udasis took him to places far away

With Bala and Mardana, his companions all the way;

Sharing his thoughts, singing Waheguru’s praise

Reaching out to humanity, in simple words proclaimed,

There is one God he said to all

Pray with all your heart and he will answer the call;

No one can tell you what to do

His glory is simple, unique and true;

A light so bright that darkness dispels

Oneness, love and compassion spreads;

Preach the love of that one divine

He who is in the heart, yet many don’t find;

He lives in your heart and knows you the best

Sit still and in his presence let your soul rest;

For one day everyone you know will be gone

Yet he won’t let you alone weather the storm!

  1. Saache Naam Ki Laage Bhookh,

Utt Bhookhe Khaye Chaliyeh Dukh;

If someone feels hunger for the True Name, that hunger shall consume his pain.

  1. So Dar Tera Keha, So Ghar Keha, Jit Beh Sarab Samale,

Where is that door of Yours, and where is that home, in which You sit and take care of all?

  1. Jinha Satgur Ras Mile, Se Purey Purakh Sujaan,

Gur Mil Bhaojaal Langeye, Dargeh Pat Parvaan;

Those who joyfully meet with the True Guru are perfectly fulfilled and wise. Meeting with the Guru, they cross             over the terrifying world-ocean. In the court of the Lord, they are honoured and approved.
